The National Park Service (NPS) would like to invite you as a participant in the 4th Annual National Park Service Recruitment Event, to explore these web pages to learn more about the NPS and to discover the details of this incredible learning experience of which you are a part. The NPS Recruitment Event scheduled for the Washington, D.C. area on July 12-16, 2008, affords you the opportunity to join with students and representatives from culturally diverse academic institutions and organizations from across the nation to receive mentoring from NPS staff and to gain personal assistance in developing a federal (government) style resume, and to explore job opportunities for the students in the National Park Service.

The NPS Recruitment Event is the singular event organized by the Diversity Recruitment Consortium (DRC) with the advice of the Recruitment Futures Implementation Team to showcase the National Park Service. This event provides student participants an opportunity to be immersed in the natural beauty and cultural richness of our nation’s treasures while learning first-hand about the NPS mission, organization and career opportunities.

The primary objective of this recruitment event is to assist the National Park Service (NPS) in improving the efficiency of recruiting and further extend its connections to historically diverse-serving institutions of higher learning and to organizations dedicated to supporting students interested in environmental careers. We hope this NPS recruitment Event will result in the participating students working for the NPS next summer in a seasonal or temporary position, and in the future in a permanent capacity

We are pleased to have Palo Verde College, a member of the DRC, as our financial partner for this year’s NPS Recruitment event. Along with a Recruitment Futures Implementation Team (RFIT) member and an advisory committee member of the University of the District of Columbia, they have planned a very exciting and interesting recruitment event.

So come join us in what promises to be a once in a life time experience to foster the values of the national park system. Come learn what it is to work for the nation’s pre-imminent preservation agency. Join us in our efforts to conserve our natural history, preserve our heritage including historic sites and cultural landscapes, and to promote outdoor recreation to aid the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this, and future generations. Come be a part of “the best idea America ever had.”
